1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Hoopsmachine ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

Hoopsmachine is a real-time basketball news aggregator that clusters coverage of the same story from multiple sources. The Service automatically collects and organizes publicly available news content to help users stay informed about basketball developments.

3. User Accounts

Account creation is optional. You may browse the Service without an account. If you create an account:

  • You must be at least 13 years of age
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You agree to provide accurate information during registration
  • You may delete your account at any time by contacting us

4. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Post spam, harassment, or abusive content in comments
  • Impersonate other users or entities
  • Attempt to circumvent security measures
  • Scrape or automated access the Service beyond normal usage
  • Submit false or misleading link submissions

5. Privacy & Data Collection

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We use cookies for:

We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

7. Email Communications

Newsletter Subscription

You may subscribe to our newsletter with or without creating an account. By subscribing, you provide express consent to receive our weekly basketball digest email. We use a double opt-in process: after submitting your email, you must confirm your subscription via a verification link sent to that address.

When you subscribe, we collect your email address, IP address, and browser user agent for abuse prevention and compliance purposes.

If you later create an account using the same email address, your newsletter subscription will be automatically linked to your account.

Types of Email

  • Transactional emails: Password resets, email verification, account changes (cannot be opted out)
  • Basketball digest: A summary of stories sent on the schedule shown at signup; account holders can customize their league, team, and player preferences
  • Tracked story updates: Emails about new coverage of stories you explicitly choose to track, sent only to verified accounts and capped per story and per day

Unsubscribe

Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Tracked-story emails include a stop-tracking link and account settings for managing tracked stories. You may also manage your digest preferences in account settings. We honor all unsubscribe requests promptly in accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the CAN-SPAM Act.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service aggregates and links to content from third-party news sources. All linked content remains the property of its respective owners. The Hoopsmachine interface, design, and original content are protected by copyright.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content displayed on the Service.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed $100 CAD or the amount you paid for the Service in the past 12 months, whichever is greater.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of material changes by posting an announcement on the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
