Sean McVay had zero interest in discussing whether Matthew Stafford, his soon-to-be 38-year-old quarterback, will be back for the Los Angeles Rams next year. McVay had a bit more to say about how his team came up short against the Seattle Seahawks yet again on Sunday, losing 31-27 in the NFC championship game. The Rams lost twice in a two-month span at Seattle, falling 38-37 in December when the Seahawks converted two 2-point conversions in regulation and a third in overtime.

Giovanni Franzoni just won the “Super Bowl of skiing.” The breakout star of the Italian ski team, with the Milan Cortina Winter Games opening next week, Franzoni is quickly coming to grips with his newfound status. A victory in the downhill on the legendary Streif course in Kitzbühel, Austria, over the weekend — the race described as skiing’s Super Bowl — followed his first World Cup win a week earlier in Wengen, Switzerland.

The U.S. team released its 232-athlete roster for the Milan Cortina Olympics on Monday and it includes Lindsey Vonn and bobsledders Kaillie Humphries and Elana Meyers Taylor, who are among the seven Americans making their fifth trip to the games. Other five-timers are hockey player Hilary Knight, figure skater Evan Bates and snowboarders Faye Thelen and Nick Baumgartner. Meyers Taylor leads a group of 33 returning medalists.

Philip Rivers called time out, informing the Buffalo Bills he is withdrawing from consideration for the team’s head-coaching job, two people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. The 44-year-old quarterback, who came out of retirement last month and started three games with the Indianapolis Colts, interviewed with the Bills on Friday. Buffalo’s search process began on Wednesday, two days after Sean McDermott was fired following a nine-year tenure.
